IRON LYNX JOINS FORCES WITH MERCEDES-AMG FOR 2025 FIA WEC PROGRAMME
Iron Lynx is delighted to announce its entry into the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship with a two-car lineup in the highly competitive LMGT3 class.
Following a solid 2024 effort, Iron Lynx will welcome an exciting new partnership, becoming a Mercedes-AMG customer team. The team will field two brand-new Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 racecars in the 2025 FIA WEC season, including the 93rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
For Iron Lynx, competing and succeeding in the FIA WEC and in the 24 Hours of Le Mans has always been the ultimate goal and satisfaction. While the team is immensely proud of its continued commitment to endurance racing, the new journey will be equally meaningful for Mercedes-AMG, as it gears up for a highly-anticipated FIA WEC debut and a scintillating Le Mans return.
A state-of-the-art machine, the Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 has achieved incredible success since its introduction in GT3 competition, and continues to be one of the benchmark contenders in grand touring car racing. However, it will need work to fulfill the homologation criteria for the LMGT3 class, including the use of drive shafts with torque sensors. Wind tunnel tests are also necessary to ensure compliance with the stipulated performance window. The process will be completed by the start of the new season.
Iron Lynx is also pleased to announce its first two drivers for the upcoming season. The #60 car will feature Claudio Schiavoni. The Italian veteran achieved one podium finish at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps this year and ended up third in the 2023 European Le Mans Series. He is set for his seventh consecutive Le Mans 24 Hours start.
In the #61 car, the team will be represented by Matteo Cressoni, who has been part of the Iron Lynx family since the team’s very first steps in the FIA WEC. The Italian F3 champion made his first FIA WEC start in 2014 and has a wealth of endurance racing experience that will assist the team with the 2025 transition.
After taking delivery of the cars, Iron Lynx will begin the preparation and testing phase ahead of the demanding season ahead, which will begin with the traditional FIA WEC Prologue which is scheduled for the 21st and 22nd of February at Lusail International Circuit ahead of the Qatar 1812km race.
We are extremely proud to welcome Mercedes-AMG as a partner. In addition to being an amazing brand, they are highly motivated, determined, and hungry for success. With such strong support, I am confident we will be able to hit the ground running and be competitive from the start. We cannot wait to receive our new Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 race cars, start our preparation work for 2025, and continue our commitment to the FIA World Endurance Championship and to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Endurance racing is rooted in our DNA, and FIA WEC is definitely its pinnacle, so we are honoured and excited to be part of it once again.
