Iron Lynx advances to Super Pole with one-two finish in 24 Hours of Spa qualifying
This evening, Italian racing team, Iron Lynx, has progressed to the Super Pole session for the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, with the #71 car driven by Antonio Fuoco, Daniel Serra and Davide Rigon setting the best time. After going fastest in pre-qualifying earlier today, the #51 machine driven by James Calado, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen followed in second place, giving the team a dominant one-two finish in a qualifying session full of incident.
This result comes after the #71 and #51 car took a one-two finish at the last round of the GT World Challenge Endurance Cup at Paul Ricard last month.
Both cars will now fight for overall pole position in tomorrow night’s Super Pole shootout.
The #83 Iron Dames machine driven by Sarah Bovy, Michelle Gatting, Rahel Frey and Doriane Pin qualified in tenth in the Gold Cup category, and will be looking to add to their points tally after an impressive second place finish at the 1000km of Le Castellet in June.
Iron Lynx Team Principal, Andrea Piccini, said:
“It’s very promising to see the team continuing with the strong performance after Paul Ricard last month, taking a one-two in qualifying this evening. The drivers really made the difference in a chaotic session.
“Of course, the job isn’t done yet, and we need to fight for the pole position tomorrow. It’s also a long race from Saturday to Sunday, and anything can happen.
“The Iron Dames managed to get a top ten in class starting position in qualifying too, with all four drivers showing their capability. This is the most competitive GT race in the world, and we believe we had the pace to finish third tonight.
“Doriane is new to the team this weekend, and she’s integrating well. It’s her first 24-hour race and the first time that’s she will be driving into the dark, so it will be a big challenge. Both Rahel and Michelle lost their best lap due to red flags, but the feeling with the car is good and this is the most important thing for the race.
“We have very good pace with the pro cars and we must be confident of having another great performance this weekend.”
The 2022 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps continues with the all-important Super Pole session on the 29th July.
