Iron Lynx and Iron Dames put on a solid performance in the FIA WEC 1000 Miles of Sebring

Friday saw both the Iron Lynx and Iron Dames team taking part in the FIA WEC 1000 Miles of Sebring race under the burning Florida sun.

An impressive qualifying lap on Thursday by Sarah Bovy gave the #85 Iron Dames car the team’s third pole position start in their FIA WEC career. Leading the GTE AM category as the lights went out, and for the first three hours, the Iron Dames showed excellent pace despite the challenging track temperatures.

Having put in a strong performance all week, the #85 line up, made up of Sarah Bovy as well as teammates Rahel Frey and Michelle Gatting, took part in some excellent fast-paced battles during the early stages of the race.

An off-track moment during Rahel Frey’s stint meant the car had to return to the pits for an adjustment, dropping the team to the back of the pack. However, in true Iron Dames spirit, all three of them never gave up the fight, and battled back to finish P8.

In an intense week for the Iron Dames, Saturday will see our trio compete once again, this time in the IMSA 12h of Sebring race in the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2. 

In the yellow Iron Lynx #60 car, experienced drivers Claudio Schiavoni and Matteo Cressoni were joined for the first time by Alessio Picariello in their debut with the Porsche 911 RSR – 19 this season as an exciting trio. Starting from P13, the #60 car battled through the pack, with Claudio Schiavoni showing consistent pace despite the challenging conditions.

A combination of a good strategy and strong driving saw the Iron Lynx team gain 7 positions, to finish P6.

Elsewhere, in the LMP2 category, Iron Dame Doriane Pin and her teammates Daniil Kvyat and Mirko Bortolotti battled from P10 up to P3 during an exciting race. Doriane Pin showed incredibile skill and determination in her debut with PREMA Racing in the LMP2 Oreca 07. Her performance was a testament to her talent and hard work battling against some of the top drivers in the world.

Iron Lynx Team Principal and CEO, Andrea Piccini, said: “We had great potential in the race and we did our best to maximise it. All our drivers put in their best efforts and we saw some exciting battles on track.

Things went extremely well for car #60, which took back multiple places through a combination of teamwork, strategy and persistence. It was the first race for Claudio in the Porsche and I’m very happy with how quickly he adapted to the new car, showing good pace and consistency.

The Iron Dames started in pole position and led the race for around three hours till a mistake sent them to the rear of the field; but they fought back with grit and determination. As the trio are racing again today in the IMSA 12h of Sebring, we will soon see them embody the true meaning of endurance.”
